Community-based instruction (CBI) at Sierra Foothills Academy is designed to give students real-life experiences while participating in activities of personal relevance. Sierra Foothills Academy’s CBI program is hands-on and is implemented during trips to community locations. Our CBI is individualized to meet the particular needs of each student and to teach skills which relate to specific IEP goals or objectives. Academics, communication, and social skills are incorporated into CBI and may include: purchasing groceries, balancing a checkbook, doing laundry, using the public library, carrying and/or purchasing items in stores, identifying potential employers through site visits, and attending community events.
“Our staff is fully committed to teaching students how to maintain appropriate behaviors for work and community settings so that they can be effective contributors to society while living independently.”
